In this simple guide, we have tried to highlight only some of the key
aspects which require attention during chanting. This is not exhaustive
in nature. Many of these aspects have deeper nuances which may be
grasped only through a detailed study. Pronunciation is mastered by
śravaṇa (listening), from a competent guru. Here we make an effort to
put it in words.

Introduction

Let us begin by understanding the Saṃskṛta Alphabet. Saṃskṛta has 4
groups of basic letters, as shown in the chart below – svara-s, vyañjana-s,
ayogavāha-s and yama-s.
