Scheme of Transliteration
This book uses the International Alphabet for Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST) to denote Sanskrit
words in Roman script. Devanāgarī to IAST mapping, along with a few common English words which have a
similar sound and words from the common usages in Sanskrit which have the sound have been suggested
below. The common-sound produced by the pronunciation of these suggested words may be closer to the actual
Saṃskṛta sound. However, it is advised to learn the exact sounds from a teacher.
Note: Sounds with *** indicate those which do not occur in English. Guidelines for their pronunciation can be
found in the Pronunciation Guide which is a part of the Bhagavadgītā edition published by Vyoma Labs.
